Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA)

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis or Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) is a method of assessing your "body composition"-the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. It is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment.

Bioimpedance Analysis measures the impedance or opposition of the flow of an electric current through bodily fluids. BIA measures body fat in relation to lean body mass, the amount of body fluids such as water, body cell mass, cellular health, and more. This test reveals early detection of an improper balance in your body composition, which allows for earlier intervention and prevention of disease.

To measure BIA, your practitioner will take a general inventory of your health, including your weight, height, gender, age, body type, physical activity level, and more. Electrodes are then placed on one hand and foot as you lie comfortably clothed on an exam table. A small, safe electrical signal, is then passed through the body generating a computerized analysis.
