Overview of Naturopathic Therapies

All naturopathic therapies are individualized for each patient. No two treatments are ever alike. This is due to the fact that all of us have different genetic make-ups. Some are stronger than others and therefore need less treatment therapies to reach an optimal health level. Others that are weaker may require more therapies and time to achieve the same level of healing.

Naturopathic Therapies

Like the tree, the symptoms of our illness are represented by the branches. Naturopathic medicine attempts to get to the cause or the root of the disease. Naturopathic practitioners may often use a combination of the following therapies for the maximum benefit in defeating the root cause of their patients' illnesses:

Botanical Medicine

Botanical medicine therapy involves the use of herbs found around the world. All herbs have their own qualities and specific indications. Many of them have potent anti-cancer as well as immune stimulating properties. There is a herb for every disease condition.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

Acupuncture has existed for over 2000 years. It is older than the modern therapies of today. The theory behind traditional Chinese medicine or TCM is to balance the yin-yang forces in the body. All diseases are a result of this imbalance. A correction of this imbalance will eliminate the root cause of the disease. This can be done in two ways: acupuncture and herbal patent formulas.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is the use of diluted substances of plants and animals to heal illnesses. It is an energetic medicine which acts in the same nature as vaccinations. "Whatever substance that can cause an illness, if given in diluted doses can cure that very same illness." This is a very safe and gentle natural therapy for children and seniors.

Naturopathic Manipulation

This therapy aims to correct misalignment in the spine and extremities using techniques similar to that of a chiropractor.

Clinical Nutrition

Diet has a lot to do with the health of an individual. What one puts into one's mouth will determine how well one grows and develops. The diet can contribute not only to health but also to many diseases such as heart disease and colon cancer. This therapy will analyze and maximize a patient's diet for proper absorption, assimilation and elimination of food allergens and supplement with vitamins and minerals.

Stress Management and Lifestyle Counselling

In today's society, stress is an inevitable factor of life. It can also lead to many diseases. Pressure from the work force, family and friends all contribute to stress. Stress affects the mind which then affects the body. Therefore, the mind has the power to affect the body. Teaching skills to manage stress as well as counselling for mental troubles can help in the cure of a disease.

Physical Modalities

This therapy uses the many physical and electrical therapies to help in the treatment of disease conditions. Some of the therapies are:

  • Hydrotherapy: the use of water to treat illness.
  • Naturopathic bodywork: the use of soft tissue bodywork to relax the body and mind.
  • Electrical therapies: the use of electrical therapies like TENS, EMS, and diathermy to relax and heal injuries.
  • Physical therapies: the use of special therapies like ultrasound, magnetotherapy, ultraviolet, and suction.
