Ionization Therapy

Ionization therapy is used where in today's toxic environment, tissue acid wastes, chemical and heavy metal residues build up in the body faster than ever before, resulting in a greater incidence of allergies and mental and physical incapacitation. Today, we are hearing more about herbal and homeopathic detox programs by alternative health practitioners as a way of reducing symptomology and maintaining health.

Ionization therapy is the use of a water module passing a low voltage direct current to separate water molecules into positive and negative ions. The ions travel through the body attaching to neutralizing oppositely charged particles, and osmosis then pulls neutralized particles out through whatever is exposed into the water. One can regulate the ion mix according to the pH of the body by changing the direction of the electrical flow. The positive polarity produces more negative ions and the negative polarity produces more positive ions.

The ionization therapy equipment used is called the Iono Cleanse Device. It does not actually diagnose, cure or treat any disease or condition. In reality it is more like a sophisticated spa, energizing and changing the water, which is used as a conductive medium. All things possess a certain energy field; thus, when a person bathes in the water or takes a foot bath the body absorbs the energy provided to use as needed.

Since the design and manufacturer are of medical grade and the unit is used in water, these types of units have received official approval from the TGA in Australia and are marketed there as therapeutic spas and medical devices. The TGA is the Australian equivalent to an American FDA. It has undergone stringent testing and has been shown to be safe in the manner advised.

The Iono Cleanse unit consists of an insulated step down transformer unit producing a smooth DC supply to a unique water electrode array. The design infrastructure of the array is crucial to the efficacy of the unit. The arrangement of copper and stainless plates combined with the electronics creates specific electromagnetic frequencies which are also transferred to the body through the water medium.

The ionization therapy device is used in practice with the feet immersed in the water and turned on for up to 35 to 45 minutes. The electrode array causes the basic electrolysis of water. Small bubbles are seen to be released from the plates. This charging effect causes dissolved impurities in the water to be precipitated, which leads to discolouration of the water, sedimentation and formation of scum on the surface.

Some of this is coming from the water and not from the person in the bath. However, there does appear to be a significant detoxification effect. At the same time the unit generates negative electrons which are released into the water as a wave form affecting the electrical state of the person being treated. Some of the water discolouration seen during treatment may in fact vary due to the water source.

However, due to an individual's body signatures the water discolouration may vary between individuals using water from the same source. For example, those that are detoxifying heavily from kidneys may in fact have light yellow to green discolouration in the water. Those detoxifying from liver and/or joints may notice brown or orange discolourations in the water. Individuals may notice that discolouration will change with the number of baths or with the person's state of health in healing.

During the initial ionization therapy the water is often very discoloured. As the person continues to use the spa and responds to this energy source the water tends to improve and lighten. These, however, are mere observations and cannot be overemphasized. The colour change does relate to toxin release and response may occur slowly with regular use over a period of time. It is recommended or advisable that individuals use the unit alternate days for a period of eight weeks to ensure maximum effect.

The Iono Cleanse can be regulated according to the pH of the body by changing the direction of the polarity of the electrical flow. The positive polarity produces more negative ions. The negative polarity produces more positive ions. It can be determined what setting an individual may need. For example, a saliva test can be used to determine whether or not a person is acidic or alkaline.

It has been determined that those with an alkaline saliva will need more negative polarity and those with predominantly acid saliva will test for more positive polarity. Keep in mind that the positive and negative are electrical terms that refer to the poles that the current flows to, not the predominant ion charge. The colours and the sludge in the water are produced by ionization interactions of the current flow, the metal in the module and the toxins in the water and the body.

The chemistry of what's happening during ionization therapy is involved in the process of separating oxygen and hydrogen. This is the process known as decomposition, which means that oxidation reduction reactions are occurring. Oxidation means giving up electrons and reduction means gaining electrons. Water is oxidized at the anode (negative pole).

The reaction is 2 H20 moving to 02 plus 4h plus 4E wherefore E stands for 4 negatively charged electrons that are being given up to the oxidation process. Water is reduced at the cathode or the positive. The reaction is 4 H20 + 4E leaving 2 to 2H2 + 4H0H-4E, which stands again for the electrons that are gained in the reduction process. In the overall decomposition reaction the volume of H2 produced is twice the volume of O2. What we have therefore are free negative and positive ions circulating in the water solution and occasionally combining to form H2O2, otherwise known as hydrogen peroxide. So we are in fact dealing with free hydrogen, free oxygen and various combinations of both.

What are the effects of these various combinations on the human body? Dr. Majid Ali, M.D. states that functional oxygen provides the most basic drive to the human metabolism. It is the key detox molecule of the body and it is nature's most potent antimicrobial agent. Thus it is in fact the guardian angel of human health. When dysfunctional, oxygen is oxidizing, acidifying and degenerative. There is extensive research that links several chronic disorders including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and environmental sensitivities to faulty oxygen metabolism.

Monitoring electron generation using specifically designed ORP (oxygen reduction potential) meters indicates that water may run at +400 to +450. Once the array is running the ORP reading will change as the electron content of the water and the immersed body part for example, the feet is equilibrated. Initially as the body takes up the available energy the ORP reading changes very little. However, when the body reaches equilibrium, the electron content of the water begins to increase and a drop in the ORP reading is noted.

This electron drop can be slow or rapid and appears to be related to the energy state of the individual taking the treatment. Negative figures of -400 to -600 have been recorded. This may in fact relate to the overall vitality in healing capacities. This is the proposed mechanism that speculates that the change in electron status of the body links to a subtle shift in pH balance leading to the overall alkalinezation of the body which will promote enhanced vitality and healing. An acid pH provides ideal breeding grounds for conditions such as viruses, parasitic infections, bacterial infections and other microbial infections that lower bodily functions and cause disease.
