How to Reduce Cellulite

Cellulite is a popular term to define fat deposits, water accumulation and fibrosis located in the connective tissue underneath the skin especially in the female lower body.

Life Stages
Reduced Cellulite

1. Life stages that reduce cellulite

  • Menopause is a period when cellulite may disappear as a result of dropping of hormonal levels.

2. Life stages that worsen cellulite

  • Adolescence causes water retention and hypertrophic growth of the fatty cells. Depending on genetics, cellulite may get worse.
  • Pregnancy. The weight and hormonal changes favour fat accumulations. It is suggested to do lymphatic drainage or endermology during pregnancy.
  • Adult phase. Any increase in weight due to sedentary lifestyle, improper diet and decreased metabolism.

Physical Activity

1. Physical activity that reduces cellulite

  • Aerobic exercise, Swimming, and Spinning. Promotes oxygenation and circulation; burns fat which is used later as a fuel. Exercise must be done according to health condition without risking the body.

2. Physical activity that worsen cellulite

  • Weight lifting. The muscles become bulky and comprise the fatty tissue against the skin. Light weight lifting must be a complement with diet and lifestyle.

3. Neutral

  • Yoga may help to improve your predisposition to further treatments.

Food

1. Foods that reduce cellulite

  • Fiber makes you feel full and increases your intestinal motility helping the body to eliminate toxins. It is suggested to eat whole grain bread, fruit, cereal, and beans.
  • Water stimulates diuresis, facilitating the elimination of toxins and retained fluids. The more water ingested the higher the metabolism, keeping the body temperature normal.

2. Foods that cause cellulite

  • Salt. Facilitates water retention causing edema (swelling) at leg level.
  • Soft drinks. Due to their high concentration of sodium and sugar, soft drinks contribute to accumulated fat at the hip level.
  • Tea, Coffee, Coca-Cola. All of these drinks contain caffeine which causes dehydration and affects the nervous system, altering hormone production. It is important to clarify that caffeine is the most important ingredient in topical anti-cellulitic agents activating enzymes that accelerate the process of lipolysis (burning fat).
  • Sugar increases localized fat, especially around the hip, diminishing circulation and tissue oxygenation.
  • Greasy and Fried food. Increase blood cholesterol levels diminishing circulation and increasing the growth of fatty cells.
  • Candies. Their consumption must be reduced due to the high concentration of sugar and oil.

Life Style

1. Life Style that reduces cellulite

  • Proper diet. Reduce fat, sugar, and salt and increase fiber, cereal, vegetables, fruits, and organic foods.
  • Physical activity. Increases circulation, diminishes water retention and toxin accumulation. Reduces localized fat and contours the body. Physical activity causes a feeling of wellness by liberating endorphins.
  • Relaxation is excellent way to combat stress which aggravates cellulite by causing hormonal imbalances.

2. Life Style that worsens cellulite

  • Smoking introduces toxins into the body diminishing tissue oxygenation and vessel diameter.
  • Tight clothing diminishes the circulation at capillary level (fine vessels underneath the skin).
  • Sedentary life style reduces blood flow and favors weight gain.
  • Stress interrupts the proper function of the central nervous system as well as the hormonal and immune systems.
  • Stress also causes excess adrenaline liberation which subsequently causes vasoconstriction and poor tissue circulation and oxygenation.
  • Alcohol beverages transform into sugar and increase localized fat.
  • Posture. Poor posture may affect the circulation.
