#1 Abnormal Heart Beat

Chances are that eating foods with more magnesium might have corrected the erratic heartbeat. It is widely known that that a magnesium deficiency can cause a heart murmur (meaning that it skips beat), and in fact, the prescription medication used to treat heart arrhythmia contains this mineral.

#2 Depression

Low magnesium levels may responsible for your depression. If you are a feeling down, eating organic foods that contain magnesium may help you beat the blues. In some cases, supplementing your diet with magnesium may even alleviate the condition altogether. This because an excess of calcium, widely available in our diet, can cause disruptive interactions in our brain chemistry and the magnesium is needed to help flush the excess magnesium out of our bodies.

#3 Kidney Stones

An insufficiency of magnesium is also a factor in the development of kidney stones. Kidney stones consist of oxalate that has bonded together with calcium. The resulting gravel is very difficult and very painful to expel. Magnesium helps to prevent this condition by stopping the calcium and oxalate from bonding together to make a solid substance.

#4 Muscle Cramps and Tremors

Without magnesium, your muscles cannot relax. If you are suffering from muscle cramping, twitching, Charlie Horses or cramping of the feet, the culprit may be a lack of magnesium. Magnesium is so effective at relaxing your muscles that it is used in sleep remedies and it is used as a drip in hospitals to help relax the spasms that women in labor experience just before giving birth.

#5 Ringing in the Ears or Hearing Loss

Ringing in the ears, also known as tinnitus, does not have to be a condition that you live with forever. In fact ringing in the ears can lead to a condition of temporary deafness that can be remedied with magnesium supplementation. Hearing mechanisms depend on a healthy biochemical balance between calcium and magnesium and when it is not there, you can suffer from tinnitus.
