You can also slice up cucumbers and add them to ice water, along with a bit of lime, or mint to create a refreshing beverage. Staying hydrated, especially during these dog days of summer is crucial to building strong healthy bones. Dabbing a bit of the juice on a cloth or simply rubbing slices of raw cucumber on your skin can also help soothe a sunburn.

One cup of sliced cucumber provides 8.5 mcg of Vitamin K, which is good for retaining bone and bone strength. According to the National Institute of Health, women over 19 years of age should be consuming about 90 mcg of Vitamin K daily and men need 120 mcg. Cucumber also contains a trace amount of calcium. Studies have been done that prove that the cucurbitacins in cucumbers may help control low glycemic reactions and high blood sugar. The cucurbitacins in cucumbers have also been found to reverse diabetes in mice. The theory behind this is that the cucurbitacins in the cucumber regulate an important hormone in the processing of blood sugar called hepatic glycogen, helping the endocrine system to operate more efficiently.
Cucumber Juice Beautifies Your Skin
You have probably already heard of the fact that sliced cucumbers, placed on the skin have a cooling effect that decreases water retention and inflammation around the eyes, but if you really want to help clear up your complexion and make it glow, collect the juice and then leave it on your skin for 30 minutes. You can also add 1/8 cup of cucumber juice to 1/8 of a cup of plain yogurt and rub it all over your face to relieve dry skin and blackheads.
