What Does the Lymphatic System Do?
The lymphatic system is indispensable to health but many people know less about it than the other systems of the body, such as the digestive or endocrine system. The job of the lymphatic system is to clean the cellular environment and then return proteins and excess tissue fluids the blood. This affects your metabolism, as the lymphatic system can affect the way your body absorbs fats and it also affects your immune system, because it is your lymphatic system that transports antibodies (white blood cells) throughout your body to fight infection.
The main vehicle for transportation in the body is lymph and it is a fluid that travels through many area of the body including to your neck, clavicle, everywhere in your chest, legs, pelvic region and intestines. If your body cannot eliminate lymph from your body in an efficient way the result can be many unpleasant symptoms and illness.
Symptoms of a Toxic Lymphatic System
When the lymph becomes stagnant it affects every other organ and system in the body. Here are some common symptoms that signify lymphatic congestion:
*Puffy skin, particularly in face wrists, ankles and feet
*A bloated upper or lower tummy or both
*Rings become too tight to wear
*Sore, stiff muscles and joint
*Feeling fatigue and lethargic
*Chronically dry or itchy skin
*Cold hands and feet
*Headaches and migraines
*The appearance of cellulite
*Metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance or diabetes
*Chronic inflammation anywhere in the body
If you have multiple symptoms then it is definitely time to pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you.
Diseases that are associated with a toxic lymph are edema diabetes, cancer, elephantiasis, glandular fever, Hodgkin’s disease, tonsillitis and swelling of the spleen.
How To Detoxify and Restore Your Lymphatic System
Here are some ways to naturally heal and detoxify a sluggish and toxic lymphatic system.
*Use organic, natural skin products and cosmetics whenever possible. The chemicals in soaps and creams can be absorbed through your skin and also prevent your body from releasing toxins through the skin. Be sure to read the ingredients on cosmetics before you buy.
*Stop wearing deodorants and use crystal rock deodorants. Commercial deodorants directly affect the lymph glands under your arms by layering even more chemicals on them and this can also help clog up the lymph glands along your chest and in your breasts. Allow yourself to sweat because that helps get rid of lymph.
Wear natural fibers instead of polyester or nylon. Your skin does absorb chemicals from man-made fibers and many of them don’t allow your skin to breathe
*Scrub your body with a loofah whenever possible. This helps exfoliate the top layer of skin so that toxins can be released from the skin.
*Stop wearing tight-fittig or underwire bras. Take your bra off whenever possible as the structure of most bras imped lymphatic flow.
*Use natural toothpaste and mouthwash. Stay away from oral hygiene products that contain fluoride metals and chemicals as these are added to your body’s toxic load.
*Take a probiotic and eat foods that help balance your gut flora. Be sure to eat sauerkraut, kombucha, yogurt and kefir, which all contain good bacteria that helps take a load off of what your lymphatic system has to process every day.
*Make sure everything you eat is vegan, organic and as fresh as possible. Include fresh vegetables and herbs, raw fresh fruit, nuts, seed and legumes, brown rice, amaranth, quinoa, millet and oats. Be aware that the more meat and dairy that you eat, the more you are likely to overload your lymphatic system with toxins from farming practices.
*Add garlic, ginger and turmeric to your diet. All three spices help chelate metals and poisons in the blood, reduce inflammation and improve circulation.
*Drink plenty of clean, cold vapor distilled water every day. Distilled water is best as it as no minerals or pollutants of any kind in it, which is better for rinsing the system than spring water. A lack of whiter can inhibit your lymph from flowing smoothly.
*Take wild Oregano oil every day. Oregano oil absorbs directly into the lymphatic system from your stomach. It contains terpenes that help clear blockages in smaller lymph capillaries.
*Take digestive enzymes every day before meal. Enzymes help break down the excess proteins that might be contributing to swelling and inflammation.
*Dry brush your skin every day to encourage lymphatic flow. Use a dry brush with very coarse bristles to brush the skin towards the heart, which helps stimulate the movement of lymph and blood in underlying organs and tissues.
*Jump up and down or on a rebounder for thirty minutes. This helps to get the lymph moving in your body.
